I
play a lot of games and often have ideas for ways to add
to the games through mods, but before I actually complete
one of my projects, another game usually comes along. I
designed quite a few Quake levels years ago but never released
them and don't even have them anymore. As a result, I thought
I would make a place here where I can store things. Eventually,
there might be some mods here but for the time being this
is a list of ideas that I'd like to work on.
MORROWIND
- Training
Area
Some people that have not played The Elder Scrolls previous
games found Morrowind very difficult to get into because
they didn't understand the interface. It wasn't clearly
explained in the manual and there was no tutorial in the
game because the game assumes you have played the previous
Elder Scrolls games and will therefore remember how it
all works. I've thought about designing a Training Area
in Seyda Neen that you can enter if you feel the need.
- Castle
The first time I played Morrowind I avoided the Great
Houses. I was a Redguard and didn't feel the need to join
any of them. Unfortunately, this meant that I missed out
on my only official way to get my own house. The editor
is very easy to use and there is a plethora of player
made houses available for download. However, I was thinking
about other games I've played and one of the greatest
rewards in the game is to own some property. It really
makes you feel like you make a difference in the land.
Here are a couple of examples:
Ultima Online - Housing was in great demand and I
became a very successful carpenter working out of a player
run town called Deepwater.
Asheron's Call - When housing was finally added
to this game it made a lot of people very happy indeed.
The allegiance system is ideal for having huge mansions,
the players that are always online manage to maintain
villas, and the rest of us either get cottages or apartments.
It works out really well and although it is tough to get
a place, it's worth the effort. There is something really
special about coming back to your home after a hard day
of hunting.
Might & Magic VII - The game begins with
you arriving on an island after answering a call to adventurers
to take part in a contest. You had to slay a dragon, which
was no mean feat for a beginning character. Once you manage
this, you win the prize of a castle on the mainland. Pretty
soon you realize that running a castle isn't just about
drinking and lounging about. You get involved in politics
and the whole game expands from your base of operations.
Baldur's Gate 2 - There is a quest where you
clear out a castle of Trolls and the grateful residents
offer to work for you. They did an excellent job with
this as every time I stopped by my castle I could collect
my taxes and check to see if any of my vassels needed
me. There were mini side quests and I really felt a part
of the world.
Basically, I would like to provide something simular in
Morrowind. I replayed the game and enjoyed the Stronghold
getting built in stages, but was disappointed that it
wasn't named after me. It was built for me but was named
after someone else... not very satisfying. My idea is
to have a castle that is in ruins, but through a series
of quests you can gradually get it rebuilt and become
the lord of the land.
- Orc
Expansion
Every Orc on Morrowind would tell you cryptically that
there was a great battle fought at Kartag Point but they
never seem to know any details. I have ideas to expand
upon this and have an invasion of Orcs. The player would
be well advised to not play an Orc character.
NEVERWINTER
NIGHTS
- Christmas
Eve
After I saw the fantastic items that Nethy had created
on nwvault.ign.com I decided to make a Christmas mod where
the player would get to meet Santa and have to help out
on Christmas Eve. I had hoped to have it ready to launch
for Christmas but didn't have time. It doesn't really
seem appropriate to keep working on it in January... but
I might finish it one day.
- D&D
Campaign
I played in a PnP game with a bunch of friends which had
great promise. We all moved away from one another and
the campaign was dropped. I'd love to try and convert
this to NWN at some point.
- Judge
Dredd Adventures
There is a team currently designing d20 modern tools for
NWN. When they release their stuff, it would be nice to
create some Judge Dredd mods. I don't have a specific
plan but I would probably start by looking back through
old 2000AD Megazines and Judge Dredd Graphic Novels. It
would be even better to get the D20 Judge Dredd rpg and
convert that, but I think that would probably be beyond
me.
